FROM EAST END PIONEERS TO A NATIONAL INSTITUTION
In 1960, a courageous group of Bangladeshi restaurateurs gathered in London with a shared dream: to create a unified voice for the emerging curry house industry. At a time when immigration, business licensing, and unfamiliar regulations posed immense challenges, they formed the Bangladesh Caterers Association UK.
What began as an informal support group in London's East End rapidly grew into one of Great Britain's most respected trade associations. Our founders turned their culinary passion into the backbone of British high streets, introducing beloved dishes, distinctive hospitality, and vibrant flavours that transformed British food culture forever.
Today, the BCA represents generations of family-run businesses, executive chefs, culinary innovators, and hospitality visionaries from London to Edinburgh, Belfast to Cardiff.

Formation in London
Bangladeshi restaurateurs founded the BCA in London to protect restaurant workers, navigate British business laws, and foster collective brotherhood.
Expansion Across the UK
Curry houses exploded across Birmingham, Manchester, Bradford, and Scotland. BCA established regional branches to support growing demand.
Launch of Annual Awards
Inaugurated the BCA Annual Awards to recognise "Restaurant of the Year" and "Chef of the Year", widely dubbed the "Oscars of the Curry Industry".
Lobbying for Skilled Chefs
BCA led historic parliamentary delegations to 10 Downing Street and Westminster advocating for skilled culinary visas and business rates fairness.
Pandemic Relief & Royal Tribute
BCA members provided hundreds of thousands of free hot meals to NHS doctors and frontline heroes, while paying solemn tribute to Queen Elizabeth II.
